The Notebook Problem
Since starting this blog and abandoning it a few months ago, I bet you thought I was not still working on it. A fool's beard you wear! I NEVER stop working on things.
I still have so many unfinished notebooks. And I buy more notebooks all the time. My wife has noticed the problem and put a moratorium on notebook buying. New notebooks must be bought by subterfuge or bought for me as presents. Luckily, if I have trouble finishing one, I now have someone who loves scrawling on paper who can finish them for me in a few sessions.
So, what am I working on right now?
Academic Projects
My podcast educational framework was reviewed, revised, and accepted, so we are in the copyediting stage, just waiting for the editor to specify some changes he'd like. So happy about this one. It also means the follow up paper with all the coding analysis can cite it without retreading too much.
The first AI art paper was accepted, sort of. They want another review before completely agreeing to publish it. I guess that means we are accepted only to the conference so far, which due to funding constraints we'll have to attend online. Revisions are due sometime soon I'd assume, but will check. So a lot of attention has to be put into that bucket for now.
The second AI art paper is almost ready to go, but finalizing will have to be put off until we have the first one tucked in.
The extensive writing project still needs one more push of data collection. We have to comb through and find student writings that need a bit more clarification. That was going to be my task this week, but the revision will take up most of my time for the next few days.
For that reading/writing class, there is a new AI module that we are apparently required to teach, and it looks pretty dry. So over the next two weeks I've got to zhuzh it up with some creativity. Last time I taught it, I added a poetry element. I love showing students that they can write simple, beautiful poems about things that are meaningful to them, and that AI can write such poems much more eloquently but the personal meaning is lost.
Also I love the word "zhuzh" but can never remember how to spell it.
Another pressing thing: I have an interview to do with a listening researcher on Wednesday. I did not send him questions, which means I actually have to work harder on the front end to know how to lead him where I want to go. But that will make for a better interview, I think.
Outside Academia
Outside academia, I'm working on reconnecting. I've been too much with my nose in my work and haven't reached out to many people lately. I'm not sure how I'm going to fit it in, given the time difference I have here in Japan with America, but I'll try.
And I've got to work on working out. I used to exercise every day! That was before university employment and before kid born, but still, I know I have twenty minutes somewhere in the morning.
